woven birds, recycled wire w/new wire

I've been experimenting with 'building' birds from wire.  They're scale models of finches - probably Goldfinches, specifically - definitely bigger than House Finches.  The silhouette is made from new wire, the bodies are built from recycled wires of different kinds.  Some came from my grandfather's collection of random stuff in his shop (think Depression generation that saved all kinds of cool stuff) and some came from the insides of motors.   The next bunch I've been working on has copper wire so fine that I dug out my grandmother's crochet hook (other side of the family) and crochet-ed the bodies of the birds.  Cool and crazy all at once, I know.  I envision a wall full of hundreds of these little guys for my October show at WSG gallery, downtown Ann Arbor, MI.
