My working title for my upcoming show is 'The Real Cinderella Dress and Other Recent Work'. How does one make room for creating a show that has a pieced evening gown, rubber birds, woven wire birds and possible encaustic on panel pieces and still have a strong, cohesive show? By coming up with a weird title, of course! The Cinderella dress is, at this point, not even started, but I have drawings and (mostly) know what I want the final piece to look like. The flock of 200, or so, woven birds I'm aiming for are growing steadily from just over 60, at the moment. I'm creating them by starting with a galvanized wire silhouette, adding some structural cross-wires and then either weaving, wrapping or crocheting repurposed wire onto the interior structure. And they're getting crazier, the variations are. I just crocheted a bird with a skirt that's embellished with vintage buttons!
The birds make some pretty incredible shadows - can't wait to see them installed! Wait! I actually can wait - need to wait, because they're still in progress!
