This summer I've taken 2 separate groups of teenagers to Detroit for art Field Trips. One was a group of recent high school grads - a group of young men. We started out at 'The Heidelberg Project', http://www.heidelberg.org/ , then took a drive down Grand River Ave. to check out the spectacular graffiti murals, http://4731.com/grccdetroit/ , and wrapped up with a visit to the DIA, http://www.dia.org/ , where we caught the last few days of 'The Art of the Samurai' - a perfect show for a group of young men!
The next field trip I took, was with a couple of teenage girls, younger than the boys. We went to Signal Return, a letterpress and typesetting/graphic design playground! http://www.signalreturnpress.org/ Then we visited the DIA for the Bruce Weber show, and a visit to the Rivera murals, African collection (love) and Contemporary (love), and wrapped up the day with an opening reception at Pewabic Pottery, for Monica Wilson's gorgeous show. http://www.pewabic.org/
